#22 Wichita State Loses Their First Game

WICHITA, Kan. – Driving past Wichita State’s campus Thursday evening, one would be struck by the blindingly bright stadium lights surrounding Eck. This was a beacon to all that a three-game series was kicking off against Nebraska. It is the second weekend in a row that Wichita State has played at home and also the first loss for the Shockers.

It started with a blowout Thursday night with the Shockers winning 9-1. On Friday the Shockers played their second game against Nebraska ending with a nail-bitingly close final score of 6-3. However, Sunday brought a close game and with it the first loss of the season.

Greyson Jenista had a solid weekend at the plate hitting .333 with a walk and 3 RBI’s. Teammates Alec Bohm and Mason O’Brien brought in 9 RBI’s each. They both hit a grand slam in the first game of the series.

The Shockers jumped out to two quick leads Thursday and Friday, resulting in wins for starting pitchers Liam Eddy and Cody Heuer. Unfortunately, that result did not replicate itself on Sunday when the Shockers lost by one in extra innings.

It was a tough loss to a now 6-5 Nebraska but the Shockers look forward to beginning a new win streak when they play SIU Edwardsville at home on March 6th and Oral Roberts on March 7th in Tulsa, OK.
