The women’s soccer team recently regained momentum when WSU students Maddie Domebo and Kenya Sevilla formed it again in Fall 2016. The 2016-2017 school year was its debut year. However, this is the first year that the women’s soccer team will be playing in a league.
As with most new clubs, interest has always been a challenge. Domebo believes her chance of a women’s soccer team overcoming the interest hurdle this year will be better because of her experience with marketing as an Integrated Marketing Communications major.
The team’s goal last spring was to build the program. They used their individual skills as WSU students to make that happen. This year, their goal is to win.
“People really didn’t know about it so that’s why it didn’t work out,” Domebo says. “They just started it and assumed people would come to them, but you really have to go to other people.”
With a game approaching, the team is pivoting their main goal from building the program to preparing for the match.
Their first game will be this Saturday April 7 at 3 p.m. in the Metroplex soccer field.
