Crowned on the first playoff hole at the Hammond Beach Resort in Palm Coast FL, Taryn Torgerson became the first individual AAC golf champion for Wichita State University. Torgerson, who was tied for fourth place going into the final day of the tournament, delivered an 8 under round of 64 to go into a playoff with East Carolina’s Dorthea Forbrigd, who had held onto to first place for the majority of the tournament.
In an interview with the Wichita Eagle, WSU golf coach Tom McCurdy claimed that Torgerson was the “best shocker in school history for women’s golf.”
Torgerson, a senior, finished her final course as a collegiate athlete with a championship under her belt, something she has dreamed of since she began golf. She also finished the year with the lowest career stroke average in Wichita State and a championship. A success she will never forget.
